US Press Abandons WikiLeaks

As we wait and see if Julian Assange will be extradited to Sweden, we have to wonder where the US media organizations have all gone that once supported WikiLeaks. The Daily Banter's Ben Cohen explains why the media has backed off.

Exiled dictator 'Baby Doc' Duvalier returns to Haiti

The former dictator of Haiti, Jean-Claude Duvalier, also known as 'Baby Doc', has returned to the country 26 years after he was overthrown. He greeted crowds of supporters, but did not say why he chose to return or what he would do. Duvalier inherited power from his father at 19 and presided over one of the darkest chapters in Haitian history. He is accused of torturing and killing political opponents, ruling in an atmosphere of fear and repression ensured by his feared secret police force.

Wikileaks: US pressured Labour leader over Afghanistan

Labour MPs have reacted with shock to claims that senior Dutch civil servants urged US officials to pressure former Labour party leader Wouter Bos to support a continued Dutch military mission in Afghanistan.

The claims flow from US diplomatic cables leaked by the Wikileaks website. Labour's refusal to back a longer stay in Afghanistan eventually led to the government's collapse.
